Get creative with some lessons from the Gourleys on how to make your own potato prints!

Method:

  1. It's nice and easy...find a plain surface you want to print on...a bag, cushion, piece of furniture, pencil case etc. then pick out some paint...we found Resene test pots lots of fun, particularly their metal effect paint range.
  2. Then slice a potato in half and use a knife to carve out a shape, such as a leaf or geometric shape to make a pattern with.
  3.  The bits left raised will be what shows up on your stamp. Kids may prefer to use a cookie cutter to cut their shape out of. We also found Bok Choy and celery made great rose stamps.
  4. Then put a bit of paint on it and stamp away! We recommend doing a few practice runs until you have the right amount of paint on (fabric requires more paint than paper or wood) and you know how much pressure you need to hold it down with to get a good stamp. Then really it's just up to you and your creativity!
