Open home tips for sellers

A house that looks its best on the day has a better chance of selling and achieving a great price. Here's how to get your home ready and really impress your buyers...

De-personalise

Pack away your personal photographs and family heirlooms. You want buyers to imagine their own photos on the wall and say, "I can see myself living here!"

Clean and de-clutter

Less is more. Put away furniture and ornaments that make the house feel cluttered. Clear the kitchen bench so buyers can imagine themselves cooking there. Clean everything thoroughly. Get into all of the corners, scrub around the taps and make those windows sparkle to create an impression of a well cared for home.

Lighten up

Create the impression of space and brightness by turning on the lights and opening all curtains and blinds during open homes.

Rearrange bedroom closets and kitchen cabinets

Buyers WILL open closet and cabinet doors. If everything is organised, the buyer will think you take very good care of the rest of the house too.

Make each room special

Give each room a purpose so that buyers can see how they could use it. If you've advertised your home as having three bedrooms, make sure there are three bedrooms, not two bedrooms and a storage room. You want your home to represent good value for money.

Think about your street appeal

The front entrance is where potential buyers will make a decision about whether to enter or not, so make sure the outside of your home is well kept, tidy and clean.
