
What made you decide to get involved in OFH?
My wife suggested it and I didn’t think too much into it and just said “sure thing” and didn’t really think we would get the part.
What are you the most excited about?
I am really excited about renovating a house on a big budget that is way above what Amy and I could afford.
What are you most nervous about?
I am probably most nervous about the intense late nights and hard work for two months straight, in close quarters and bad living conditions.
What is the best thing about your teammates?
Their personalities, they are just all amazing and great to hang out with.
What is the most annoying thing about your teammates?
When they ramble on about some stuff that could take like one second to say.
Who in your family do you think is going to find this challenge the hardest and why?
I would say Amy because she isn’t a builder and has not had much experience in this area. So, physically it will be quite tiring for her.
What was your first impression of your parents-in-law?
My first impression of my parents-in-law was how amazingly kind and loving they are.
What are Anne and Al's biggest assets?
My in-laws' biggest asset is their experience and knowledge in this area.
What do your friends/workmates think of getting into this challenge?
My friends and workmates think it’s great, there are lots of jokes flying around about what kind of stuff I’ll be doing and some things I do at work that will look ridiculous on TV.
What is the most ambitious piece of DIY you have ever done?
Renovating my brother’s house with my two brothers and father in a two week time frame before I started building.
Describe your DIY style?
My DIY style is rustic/upcycled.
What do you think is your secret weapon in this competition?
I like to think my secret weapon is my faith in God. As cheesy as it sounds, God keeps my head on the ground, my heart in the right place and my priorities in check.
Do you have any DIY nightmare memories from your childhoods?
None. No nightmare DIY happened while I was young. I have great memories of building alongside Dad.
Every parent makes sacrifices for their children, what’s one yours have made for you?
My parents are constantly making sacrifices for me and my brothers and sisters. Things like my mum giving up teaching for years and years to raise us.
Which task(s) of the renovation do you think you will excel in?
The building and framing side of it.
Which task(s) of the renovation are you most worried about?
The kitchen, trying to make the space flow and feel spacious will be tricky.
What is the defining quality that you bring to the renovation?
My relaxed, optimistic attitude. Maybe some jokes.
